Advanced Portfolio Critical Evaluation.

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
How have you stuck to conventions of the genre, forms and conventions of music video and musical genres?
We have stuck to the conventions of the genre, forms and conventions of music video with the main theme behind the music video a narrative of romance between boy and girl. We have also stuck to the pop conventions by highlighting the sexuality and  of the female artists and having a large element of our music video focusing on the transformation of the artists character into a typical attractive character. We also stick with the typical combination of narrative and performance for a pop music video.


Have you used postmodern ideas to challenge existing music video conventions?
We feel that we have integrated a large postmodern element of having the music video and narrative based around the television progamme 'MADE' by MTV. This challenges the music video conventions as it hasn't been done before and therefore makes the video quite unique.

What overall effect has the challenging of these conventions had on your product?
However we do feel that challenging these conventions and creating such a unique idea for the music video still works and fits into the conventions of the music genre and artist. This is because our artist Katy Perry is linked a lot with MTV ( she hosted the mtv music awards), also she is known for being a big character and the show 'MADE' is all about drastically changing people into the type of person they want to be. In the case of our music video this is confident, sexy and attractive, many attributes which Katy Perry is known for.

3. What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

How did you gather audience feedback and what issues where raised?
We gathered audience feedback by having another group watch our music video, and comment on how they think it is looking so far using a sheet with promt questions. The only issue raised was that the narrative was a little unclear but this may have been because we did this audience feedback quite early on so our clips were not at the right point in the song as we still had more filming left to do.

Do you agree with your audience feedback and what are the possible problems of such a process?
We agree with our audience feedback. The majority of the comments were positive such as the idea of using the tv programme made, our locations and our use of shots. However th prooblem with this process could be that our audience knew us so they may have been bias and also we gave feedback on their music video so they may have given positive comments due to that.

Did you change your production to meet audience needs? What did you have to change?We have a few shots which we filmed with the camera infront of the mac which one of us wrote 'day one building self confidence' and various points in the music video. We used a background of a scrapbook and through our audience feedback someone noticed a fault with the background so this made us refilm it all together and we are much happier with our new shots.
4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning ans evaluation stages? 
What technologies did you employ to create your production? Did they drive your creativity?
Some technologies we used to create our production included using Photoshop as a backdrop for a notebook    in the video, this is similar to the notebook back drop that they use in the actually T.V show 'MADE' and drove our creativity more to use Photoshop to edit other bits of filming with handwriting scribbles such as on the progamme.

How did you use technology to research and plan your production? How have you used technology (youtube) to gather audience feedback? 
We have used technology to research and plan our production mainly with using youtube to research different types of pop music videos, previous videos by our artist. Also we looked at other peoples versions of a video for 'one of the boys' and noted things that didn't work so that we would not make the same problems with our video.


How has online media technology enabled you to distribute your project to a wide audience?
Online media technology such as youtube and facebook has allowed us to distribute our video to a wider audience by posting and sending links to people and then seeing feedback from people via the use of comments and ratings.

So, this is what our website looks like so far. We have changed our idea of the dressing table to a collage of pictures taken from magazines. From here we are going to have a video clip of our music video and a list of news feeds about what she is doing at the moment and latest tweets.

Our Digipak cover ties in with this as we have used the collage as the background and blended the picture of the artist with this for cohesion. We are a little undecided about what to have on the back of the digipak, possibly another collage of pictures taken from mens magazine and then a long shot of the artstist dressed as a boy, showing the two sides to the music video.

For our website and possibly our digi-pak also ( to keep the artists image constant through-out all forms of media) plan to use this font for text.

The image shows a screen grab of the website which we have started this lesson, the image is a collage which will also be used in part of the C.D case.

We have decided not to use the idea of a make up table, we have now decided a collage background would be more appropriate. The background was achieve by making an actual collage and scanning the piece in.

Editing

We decided that we wanted to re shoot all the shots that we did the last time we filmed, as we felt the locations needed better lighting. Our new shots are much better and we have now begun to edit them on imovie.

This screen grab is a long shot of the main girl practicing walking in heels. In the left hand corner we have placed a light which made the hallway look much brighter then if we didn't use this equipment.

Today we managed to book out some equipment in the lesson and film the beginning of the video again with different people saying 'I wanna be faster', 'I wanna be better', and 'I want to be stronger'. This went successfully and we are thinking about using these shots to create a split screen effect. We also managed to shoot the scene in which the girl walks through the college with boys staring at her because of her transformation from a tomboy to a girly girl. In our planning folder on the shot list we choose to have the boy she liked also meeting her in college as well as at the Christmas lights. However because we got a lot more material that we liked from today and because it will be difficult to get the male actor into college at a time we are all free, we have decided ( for now) to cut this. Instead we will use the material of the boys staring at her. We have also decided for the performance concept of the video that instead of shooting each shot separately, we will record her performing the whole song from different angles and then edit the material to get the right sections of the song we want. We hope this will save time and minimise confusion. As we were not able to film last week, we have booked out equipment for this Sunday and hope to film all the house scenes as well as the Christmas lights scene. This is the weather forecast for Sunday as we will be filming outside for the Christmas lights.

Katy Perry Official Website.

Since Katy Perry has realesed a new single called 'Fireworks' she has changed her website so that it is focused on this new single. Her previous website was much more girly with soft pale pinks such as the image above where she is sat in pink clouds. This has made it difficult when making our own website because we have focused on making it girly however Katy perry is slowly changing as an artist away from this girly image to a much more mature artist as we can see from her new website above. But we have decided to continue using her previous image for inspiration for our website as we have already stated our audience being teenagers.

Music video insert

During our msic video, the main character will be given different tasks which will slowly guide her into become the girly girl which she wants to be at the end of the music video, so throughout this image will come up on the screen stateing what day it is and the task. We created this by placing the backgrond on photoshop then we used a lipstick brush to create a smdged affet an filmed us writing the word using the mouse. We then uploaded it to imovie where we wil sped it up to that it last 2 seconds.

DEVELOPMENT OF WEBSITE.

After trying to create the image of the the silhouette with the images inside,we realised that this would be challenging to do and we don't feel that it will fully fit with the image of our artist and our music video. We have however come up with a new idea which we feel is more fun, light-hearted and fits with the themes of our music video. We will use a dressing table (linking to the theme of the transformation of the tomboy), as our main aspect with things like make-up, photographs and notes decorating the dressing table and linking to different pages in the website. We decorate a dressing table with these things, take photographs and using photoshop and iweb will edit them for the website.

This is the weather forecast for this Saturday, when we will be doing our second day of filming. We will be shooting a lot of the film again as  we had problems with lighting. This time we will ensure we have the right lighting equipment also we will be more organised as we have experience and what and how not to do it. We hope to film, as well as a lot of the scenes in the home the scene with the Christmas lights. This should go well as it is not foretasted to rain.  However we my need a torch light for this scene as well as a floor lamp for the scenes in the home ( with access to electricity).
